My 8th grade science teacher was instrumental in my decision to be a doctor. I remember having to draw the human body and being very interested. I started out as a biomedical engineering major although my first degree was in art. While that profession didn't work out, I was fortunate enough to meet my wife there and decided to go back to get my pre-med degree. My first rotation as a medical student was in orthopedic surgery. As a "gearhead" and with my engineering background, that specialty just clicked for me.

I like both the instant gratification of fixing broken bones as well as the small gains that I make for special needs children. What may seem insignificant for some people means so much to these kids and their families. For a child to be able to sit longer or walk more fluidly or to make it easier for a parent to care for a child - these are all things I do on a daily basis. I relate very well to children and spend time talking to them- not just their parents. I believe that these kids know a lot more than people think. I respect my patients as the center of everything that's going on. I work with parents to have a plan to better their child's life.
