I have known since high school that I wanted to be a doctor. This profession allows me to enjoy a good mix of science and interaction with people. I chose to be an orthopedic surgeon because I like the technical aspects of surgery and I really enjoyed dealing with musculoskeletal problems as they are so varied. I get a great deal of satisfaction in helping people and there is nothing better than a patient who returns to me and is grateful for the improvement I made in their life. Since I work often with joint replacements and arthroscopy, I find that there is a fairly quick positive response for many patients. It is great watching them get back to doing what they enjoy fairly quickly. My patients, I hope, will see that our professional relationship enjoys certain equality between patient and physician. My patients are an integral part of the treatment process because I genuinely care about their unique situations; therefore treatment plans for the same problems may vary by individual needs. I take what I do very seriously. I don't try to do everything in orthopedics; but what I do, I do well.
