My high school science teachers always told me that I should be a doctor. I excelled in science yet I went to Yale as an English major. I liked to write and I thought that's what you did in college. I took all of the pre-med classes, too, just in case. My wife's father was an internist and she said she'd never marry a doctor. So, I married her and THEN I went to medical school. I chose orthopedics because it is action oriented. I'm a pianist, too, and I like that I get to work with my hands in orthopedic surgery. I specifically like working with hands because there is a variety in the problems, the procedures tend not to be extended, and I like to see patients of all ages.

I love what I do. I like living in the community in which I work. I enjoy taking care of people I meet at my kids' schools and at church. I don't dictate to my patients what they need. I give them a diagnosis and then I really want them to participate in their treatment. When you come to my office, you will personally see me at EVERY visit. My approach to hand care is very personalized and ethical. I pride myself on that and not taking a "one procedure fits all" approach as some other physicians tend to do.
