I've known since I was 13 that I was going to be a doctor. My grandfather was a general practitioner, my father is an orthodontist and my uncle is an orthopedic surgeon. Medicine was just in the family and I excelled at school and enjoyed learning. I also knew pretty early on that I wanted to be a surgeon. Initially, I thought I wanted to be a Neurosurgeon but I realized quickly that in orthopedics patients regain a return to normal function. Orthopedics was a natural fit for me and I gravitated to the more meticulous aspects of hand surgery. Dr. Fred Meyer was a hand surgeon in Denver where I trained. He became a mentor to me and one of the key reasons I chose hand surgery.

I like the variety that this job provides. I enjoy the challenge of a puzzle every day and figuring out how to get my patients the best possible outcome. My patients should see me as a teacher and a coach. I will teach you about your injury and diagnosis and then I will coach you through the treatment, therapy and recovery processes. After 8 years in private practice, I can tell you that my ideal day would be a mix of different surgeries - from very complex to more routine, where all patients do well.
