"I felt fully confident in him the first time I met him."

Barbara, 75, Mesa - Knee Pain and Knee Replacement

Barbara broke her patella (knee cap) 30 years ago. It was repaired twice within a week upon the initial injury with wires around the patella and twisted on both sides.  Those wires were cutting through her tissue and doing a lot of damage to her leg. She was also in severe pain.  At the time, she was told that the only option for repair was a knee replacement, which she couldn’t do because of her allergy to nickel.  After 30 years of suffering and limping she asked her primary care doctor for a recommendation to another orthopedic surgeon.  She was afraid that without a new knee, she would have to lose her leg.  She met with her OSNA doctor. “He was so personable. I felt fully confident in him the first time I met him.”

Luckily for Barbara, her OSNA doctor was one of the only doctors in the country who is using a new knee made of titanium.  The knee had come out 3 months prior to her meeting with her doctor and he was already using it. The doctor replaced her knee and straightened her leg. After walking in pain for 30 years, she had started walking on the side.

“When I woke up in the recovery room, my doctor was standing there and he said my name. He came up to my room to check on me later that day. That is really something for a doctor to care that much”. Barbara is walking pain-free for the first time in 30 years! Because of her experience, she has sent 4 friends to her doctor for joint replacements.
